    Veterinarian Intern

    The purpose of this position is to serve as an intern and provide direct support to the NASA Chief Veterinarian Officer, stationed at the Kennedy Space Center (KSC), and who is responsible for the entire NASA animal program across the Agency. As a part of the internship and on-the-job training experience, the incumbent will assist in all duties of the NASA Chief Veterinarian Officer, as assigned, which may include completion of a specific project, to augment the learning experience during this internship.

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities
    • Provide direct support to NASA Chief Veterinarian Officer on tasks and specific project(s), as assigned.
    • Become familiar with standard operational procedures, policies, and guidelines for animal research and welfare at NASA, in addition to state and federal standards
    • Assist with the management and oversight of animal facilities and research at NASA
    • Assist with animal care evaluations and develop recommendations for care
    • Assist with the performance of regulatory actvities related to animal health and care
    • Complete formal and informal presentations, as assigned
    • Assist with the development of records and reports
    • Ensure organization of hard copy information and electronic files to facilitate ease of access and retrievability, when needed
    • Assist with the gathering of requested information (tracking down of documents, internet searches, etc.)
    • Maintain effective periodic communication (daily, weekly, as needed) with NASA Chief Veterinarian Officer, associated staff and employer and contract management
    • Participate in and coordinate team meetings as scheduled
    • Complete other duties as assigned 

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

    - A student currently enrolled in a university or college program leading to a Doctorate in Veterinarian Medicine degree
    - An incumbent with interest in laboratory animal medicine
    - An incumbent with interest in NASA and the space program, and in helping NASA and international partners achieve desired goals

    -PC skills in Microsoft Office products
    - Ability to be a self-starter, very proactive and adept at creative problem solving
    - Ability to critically analyze data and assimilate findings 
    - Ability to think independently and work collaboratively
    - Must be team-oriented and perform well in a team environment 
    - Excellent organization and communication skills (written and oral)
    - An incumbent with prior experience supporting animal handling, care and treatment
